Most of us live where we do for expedient reasons. We grew up there, we went to school there, our job is there, our relatives are there. We seldom choose on the basis of the pure pleasures of living - of beauty, culture, congeniality, style, affluence, language, climate, cuisine. It's just as well - if we did the whole world would, no doubt, live in Italy.
